JTNPA Announces Annual Bighorn Benefit Dinner & Auction

For Immediate Release

TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA, August 16, 2024 – The Joshua Tree National Park Association (JTNPA) is
pleased to announce that ticket sales are now open for the Annual Bighorn Benefit Dinner & Auction,
scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024. This year’s event is proudly sponsored by Z107.7 FM and the
Historic Campbell House Inn in Twentynine Palms, CA. Proceeds from the event will directly support the Desert Bighorn Sheep Surveying Program at Joshua Tree National Park, contributing to the conservation of
bighorn sheep populations across the Mojave Desert.

Desert bighorn sheep are specially adapted to the mountainous regions of the Mojave Desert, where they
depend on their ability to move through remote areas to find food and water throughout the year. This movement is crucial for maintaining genetic diversity and supporting natural recolonization after local extinctions. However, human barriers can limit access to these resources, posing a threat to the herds.

The Desert Bighorn Sheep Surveying Program tracks these animals, collects vital biological data, and
analyzes the effects of barriers on herd health. Funds raised at the Bighorn Benefit enable researchers to coordinate surveys and purchase essential equipment, such as tracking collars and helicopter time, ensuring
the protection of critical habitats within the park.

Last year’s Bighorn Benefit raised over $13,000, which funded a bighorn sheep specialist, tracking collars, helicopter helmets, and a full day of helicopter time. Thanks to the generosity of donors and park partners, JTNPA was able to fully support the program for the 2023 fiscal year. This year, with the support of our sponsors, Z107.7 FM and the Historic Campbell House Inn, we aim to build on that success and further our efforts to protect these iconic animals.

The 2024 Bighorn Benefit will be held at the Historic Campbell House Inn in Twentynine Palms, CA. In
addition to an exquisite dinner, guests will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of items, services, and experiences donated by businesses throughout Southern California. This event is an excellent opportunity to connect with other passionate supporters of Joshua Tree National Park and contribute to a vital conservation effort.

Tickets can be purchased through our website at joshuatree.org. Due to limited availability, we recommend reserving your tickets promptly.

Those unable to attend the event can still support bighorn conservation by donating directly to the Desert
Bighorn Sheep Surveying Program. These donations fund the same critical needs as those raised during the benefit. Additionally, consider becoming a Park Lover member, as these memberships are a primary way JTNPA supports programs like this one in Joshua Tree National Park. If you are interested in getting involved, contact Director of Development Christine Grimes at chris@joshuatree.org.
