Camping and Trails
PARK INFOCamping
For the most part, camping inside Joshua Tree National Park is on a first come, first served basis. The exceptions to this are Black Rock Campground, Indian Cove Campground, and Jumbo Rocks Campground. Check the Joshua Tree National Park website Campgrounds page for seasonal campground closures. To reserve a spot at these locations, visit the recreation.gov page. Be sure to visit Joshua Tree National Park’s Camping Regulations page for rules related to the campgrounds in the national park.
Campgrounds can become full during the busy season between the months of October through May. Be sure to reserve your campsite in advance or plan to arrive early during a weekday (Monday through Thursday). If camping is not available within the park, there is the option for overflow camping on adjacent BLM land. For more information regarding this, please visit Joshua Tree National Park’s Camping Outside of the Park page. Sleeping in your vehicle overnight along the roadside is not permitted.
Trails
Hiking the network of trails in Joshua Tree National Park is one of the best ways to experience the national park. However, it can be quite dangerous as it is very easy to get disoriented by extreme temperatures and/or lost. Be sure to pick up a map and/or a book from our online shop to learn all the information one needs to stay safe and to experience the hiking trails to their fullest potential. For additional information, be sure to visit the Joshua Tree National Park’s Hiking page.
