Birds and Other Wonders of the Salton Sea with Kurt Leuschner
7:30am - 4:30pm at the Salton Sea

Spend the day exploring the Salton Sea with a focus on birds and natural history. Over 400 bird species have been recorded at the Salton Sea! We will try to find as many of them as we can as we car-caravan down the east side of the Sea.

Cultural Landscapes and Ethnobotany of the California Deserts with Elizabeth Paige
8:00am - 1:00pm at the Black Rock Education Room and Campground

Learn about the abundantly diverse ecosystem of the California desert from an Indigenous perspective. We will discuss medicinal and ceremonial use of plants, cultural landscapes and suggested conduct therein, Indigenous people’s role in desert ecosystems, and the importance of knowing the complex history of the lands we all call home.
