JTNP to Hold Community Meetings

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK, Twentynine Palms, California – Joshua Tree National Park staff invites the public to attend a meeting exploring future park management strategies related to visitation and capacity issues. The park will host three open house meetings in October, 2019 to discuss past visitor use and resource management actions, as well as current infrastructure and future plans. Park managers encourage this dialog to help inform them on visitor needs.

Park staff will conduct the following three community meetings:

Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. at the Copper Mountain College Bell Center, 6156 Copper Mountain Road, Joshua Tree CA 92252.

Monday, October 7, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the El Pueblo – Pico House, 424 North Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Spotlight 29 Casino, 46-200 Harrison Place, Coachella CA 92236.

Park Superintendent David Smith will welcome and orient participants who will have the opportunity to circulate through five different stations. Each station will be staffed with park subject matter experts providing updates on topics relevant to visitor enjoyment and park use. An RSVP is not necessary, however, if you are in need of accommodations to participate, such as assistive listening devices, large print, braille, a sign language interpreter, or real-time captioning, please contact the park accessibility coordinator at 760-367-5502, or at patty_gerhardt@nps.gov. To ensure that the requested accommodations are available, please contact the accessibility coordinator a minimum of seven days prior to the meeting.
